The Freedom of the Moon

The Freedom of the Moon - Robert Frost
I’ve tried the new moon tilted in the air
Above a hazy tree-and-farmhouse cluster
As you might try a jewel in your hair.
I’ve tried it fine with little breadth of luster,
Alone, or in one ornament combining
With one first-water start almost shining.

I put it shining anywhere I please.
By walking slowly on some evening later,
I’ve pulled it from a crate of crooked trees,
And brought it over glossy water, greater,
And dropped it in, and seen the image wallow,
The color run, all sorts of wonder follow.

Our moon is really an amazing feature of our sky. It causes our oceans to rise and fall twice a day, illuminating our sky, be it as a glimmer during Dusk just before reaching its “New Moon” phase, following the sun into night slumber, or be it in its gibbous or full phase, where it streams enough light to our land - Just barely enough to read by. The full moon causes “lunacy” - The crazed walk the streets under a full moon, dogs howl at it. There are more births as if the pull of the full moon has a tidal effect on the mother’s womb. Our months are originally structured around the full moon and there are people who rely on the full moon as a guide to when to sow seeds and when to harvest. Surely it’s no coincidence that the female cycle is roughly 28 days - the exact time it takes a moon to retreat through all its phases, returning to its full and illuminated state.

Amazingly enough, our moon is the only moon in our solar system, out of hundreds of moons, whose size and distance from its mother planet is a perfect match to completely hide the Sun when it choses to pass through such a path.

Our moon is a truly spectacular object.

Hey there! Hmm…I’ve always loved Robert Frost :] Wow, the moon is pretty vital! I didn’t know the thing about the mother’s womb; that’s quite fascinating! I knew most of the other things, though. It’s amazing how something so tiny is so vital to our existence. Anyways, take care!

I find the moon so amazing sometimes. I love the way it appears differently at different times of the month; how sometimes you just see a crescent, other times you can see the full moon, and sometimes you can’t see a moon at all.

Thats a beautiful poem. I enjoy reading how you put things. I think, when reading your post, it put the moon in a totally different perspective for me. I remember there was one night I was driving home, and I swear the moon was huge. It took up almost a quarter of my view. Quite amazing.

Team moon!

There is nothing better than walking at night under a full moon. The light is so beautiful.
